Meet Ben

Frame 1

Ben participated in our online cookery short course for young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). He wanted to gain more experience in the kitchen, learn some new skills and some new dishes. Ben learnt four new dishes over the course of four days and every day we saw his confidence grow. Ben reported that he’s now a lot more confident using a knife safely and using the hob. He also commented that he enjoyed learning to cook spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread because it tasted so good! His favourite dish remains pizza, but he did say that because of the dishes we cooked together he is more open to trying new things. Ben enjoyed working with Wiggly and described us as really nice people.

Cooking with Wiggly has enabled Ben to build valuable skills and become more independent as he enters adult life. By cooking within his own home, Ben was able to build confidence in a safe and familiar environment with the support of his family. He’s open to trying new things and hopes to learn how to cook meals for one as he looks towards the future.

Teaching online is just another way we can help others to achieve their goals and enhance their lives through learning about food and nutrition.
