NEW Printable Resources for Food Pantries
July 30, 2024
We know how challenging it can be to feed yourself and your family with fresh, healthy food, and how difficult it is to find the inspiration to cook a meal from scratch every day!
For people on low incomes, local food pantries do an amazing job of supplying store-cupboard staples for their clients as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, often donated by local community gardens.
But some fruit and vegetables get left on the shelf at food pantries (and in the supermarket!) more often than they should, as people are not sure how to prepare or cook with them. Butternut squash, beetroot, courgettes (and their larger versions, marrows) and rhubarb are often less popular selections, but they are really versatile when you know what to do with them, and fantastic to pick up when they are in season.
Wiggly wanted to do something to help out, so we have created a selection of free resources for anyone to download and print. They are particularly aimed at local food pantries – as resources for clients to help people know how to cook with some of the seasonal vegetables.
We have also created a selection of fact sheets to support people with things like batch cooking (a great way to save money and time in the week), shopping on a budget, portion size, how to make a meal go further and more!
Why not take a look on our recipe page at our first ten fact sheets. We hope you find them useful!
We would love to hear your feedback. Please let us know if there are other fruits or vegetables you would like us to feature in future editions!
Please message us at office@wigglycharity.org or tag us on social media if you use the fact-sheets or want to vote for future editions! We are on Facebook and Instagram as @wigglycharity and would love to hear from you.
Thank you for all the wonderful work that you do at our local food pantries to support everyone in our communities to have access to good, healthy food. We salute you all.
